Keeping the Agile Magic Alive

You know that feeling at Agile conferences and Open Spaces? The one where you walk into the space and it immediately feels like a family reunion?

Between the hugs, you become overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, because you're surrounded by people who share your passion and mission for human-centered work.

You feel seen, and you remember why the work is important, even though it's hard.

And while the sessions are great, what you look forward to most is the hallway track. The chance to have unstructured conversations to exchange ideas and build real relationships.

Then the conference ends. Everyone goes home. And slowly, that spark fades back into the daily grind.

This community exists to keep that conference magic alive year-round.

It's an intentional online space for people who care about the humans in technical systems. Not just the code, not just the architecture, not just the methodology — the people.

The Debugging Human Communication community is part of a broader coaching program run by Andrea Goulet that serves people who are craving a technical manual for human conversation. But you don't have to be a coaching client to participate in the community.

Before the community launches publicly, it's important to build the right culture. One that replicates the feeling of joy and connection we experience when we're together in person.

If you're reading this, you're someone who we think is an ideal community member and may be interested in building what this community will become.

Meet Your Community Organizer

Hi! I'm Andrea Goulet. I've been active in the Agile community for over a decade. And like you, I believe that Agile works because it's built on a foundation of empathy and effective communication.

That's what holds our community together. A deep commitment to shared learning, experimentation, and psychological safety. Intentionality is what enables us to create spaces where people can share ideas and support each other's struggles.

Over the past year, I've seen a strong aching in our community for sustained connection. I feel it too. And as one of the founders of Legacy Code Rocks, I know how a curated online space can be a powerful force for human connection.

By following the same model as Legacy Code Rocks, we can craft an online space that is driven by a craving for community and a desire for connection.

Debugging Human Communication is a curated experience that is designed for deep engagement instead of surface-level small talk.

I am deeply committed to the human-centered practices of Agile and XP. Which is why I am honored to have the opportunity to hold space and invest in the communication infrastructure and community management needed for an online space that acts as a perpetual hallway track of the conferences we all love.

Community isn't a place. It's the people in that space. People with shared values and vibrant interactions — and that's where you come in.

Founding Members Make the Magic

In any organization, culture is established from the beginning. The first people are the ones who establish the behavioral norms for other people to follow.

That's why you're receiving this invitation. You are someone who naturally embodies what this community is striving for.

As a founding member, your role would be to help shape the culture of this community. Founding members agree to show up, participate, and model the behaviors of healthy communication that make spaces like this feel safe.

If culture building through deep conversations about human connection is something that:

  1. 1. Sounds appealing
  2. 2. Something you can realistically commit to doing

then we hope you consider joining us as a Founding Member.

When the program launches to the public, community access will be $129. As a founding member, you're not paying that.

But you're not getting it for nothing either.

As a founding member, you commit to long-term active participation in the online community by:

  1. 1. Regularly posting your ideas, experiences, and expertise
  2. 2. Showing up for others by offering support, sharing resources, and modeling psychological safety.

In return, you'll get:

  • Lifetime access to the online community — ongoing conversation, questions, and connection
  • Complimentary 30-minute private coaching session — It's my thank you for helping shape what this becomes
  • The opportunity to influence the culture from day one

Who Will You Be In Community With?

Debugging Human Communication is for people who believe communication is at the heart of team collaboration and software quality, such as:

  • Software developers who light up during hallway conversations
  • Coaches helping teams code or communicate more effectively
  • Product managers bridging technical and business worlds
  • Test engineers who see the human side of quality
  • Authors and facilitators who are respected in technical communities
  • Someone who doesn't call themselves "technical" but feels at home in spaces where deep technical conversations happen

You don't need to write code. You just need to care about the humans who work together to build technology.

Common Questions

How much time does participation require?
Prepare for at least 1 hour per week. You will check in a few times a week, respond to threads that resonate, and share your own experiences when relevant. Think of it like the hallway track itself — you don't need to be there every minute, but you do need to show up.
What platform do you use?
We use Heartbeat, which has Slack-style channels for discussion. It's designed for community engagement rather than just chat, with features that encourage deeper conversation over quick reactions.
What happens after the founding member period?
Once the community opens to the public, founding members keep their access — no fees, no expiration. Your investment is your participation in building the culture.
Is this the same as the coaching program?
No. The community is hosted on the same platform I use for my coaching clients, which is why I feel confident that I can commit to the high-engagement community management that's needed for sustainability and member experience. You don't need to be a coaching client to participate in the community.
What if I need to step back for a while?
Life happens. If you need to take a break — for work, family, health, or just bandwidth — that's okay. Let me know, and there's no penalty. The only thing I ask is that you don't disappear without a word. When you're ready to return, you're welcome back.
Will there be live events or just async discussion?
Right now, it's primarily async — threads, posts, and conversations that happen on your schedule. As the community grows, we may add optional live events like virtual coffee chats, meetup-style presentations, book clubs, etc. If you are interested in leading any live events, there are definitely opportunities to experiment.
Can I invite others to join?
Not yet. During the founding member period, invitations come directly from me and the small group of people who have helped me experiment with the concept. Once we open to the public, there will be ways to refer people you think would be a good fit. For now, the focus is on building culture with a small, intentional group.
How do you handle conflict or difficult conversations?
Directly and with care. This is a community about communication, so we practice what we preach and enforce our code of conduct. If you are interested in becoming a moderator, let me know.
What topics are on/off limits?
We don't ban topics — we focus on how you engage. Our code of conduct restricts behaviors like character attacks, stereotyping, harassment, and discrimination, regardless of the subject matter. Sharing your lived experience — including experiences shaped by identity, background, or beliefs — is welcome here. What's not welcome is treating anyone's identity or existence as a debate topic, or using any subject as a vehicle for the restricted behaviors in our code of conduct. Before posting on sensitive subjects, ask yourself: Am I sharing from my own experience? Am I inviting conversation or shutting it down? Am I treating others' perspectives as valid even when they differ from mine? When uncertain, reach out to a moderator.
How is this different from other Slack or Discord communities I've joined and abandoned?
Most online communities optimize for growth and activity metrics. This one optimizes for depth. It's smaller by design, curated intentionally, and built around genuine connection rather than content volume. The founding member model means everyone here is an active participant in making this community healthy — not just a free signup they forgot about.
When does the community open to the public?
Likely April 2026, but there is no fixed date. The founding member period continues until we've established the culture and rhythms that make this space work. I'd rather take longer and get it right than rush to scale.

If you have any other questions, please reach out to andrea@debugginghumancommunication.com.

What This Is NOT

Let me be direct about fit.

This is not a networking group.

Soliciting sales leads and poaching emails is prohibited. This community is about genuine relationships, not transactions.

This is not a content library.

There's no archive of videos to passively consume (yet). The value comes from active participation and real conversation.

This is not a place to lurk.

Founding members commit to contributing, not just observing. If you're looking to consume without engaging, this isn't the right fit.

This is not therapy.

It can complement therapy, but the focus is practical skill-building, not deep emotional processing.

Are You a Good Fit as a Founding Member?

This is for you if:

  • You naturally show up for others and enjoy supporting people in their challenges
  • You find energy in deep conversations about human dynamics, not just technical problems
  • You're comfortable sharing your own experiences, questions, and uncertainties
  • You can realistically commit to active participation for at least 6 months

This is NOT for you if:

  • You're primarily looking for a place to promote your services or build your audience
  • You prefer to observe and consume rather than actively engage
  • You don't have bandwidth for community participation right now
  • You are expecting a robust learning library of downloadables and courses
